July/August 2012 - Nr. 7/8

This city has a multitude of street, art and music fests throughout the summer. I wish I could go to all of them, but it is not possible. We did check out the clubs and our community scene, which also sizzles with activities and will continue to do so throughout the July and August. There is no shortage of entertainment in this our world class metropolis. Unfortunately we do not hear enough of other smaller communities. I wish they would participate more with us in making our culture more known.

Midsummer Night at the Hansa Club

Happy birthdayThis annual dance is held just around the summer solstice and has always been well visited. The hall was fabulously decorated, the mood of the people was incredibly cheerful, the food was great and beverages were freely available, including a new and cloudy beer. Not everyone’s cup of tea. But I LOVED the Herrings Salad. I truly think they should package it and sell it!

Robert Gutwein welcomes the many guestsPresident Robert Gutwein welcomed the many guests and was seen everywhere doing everything, leaving his lovely wife Heidi mostly alone at the table. But Heidi too is active and disappeared frequently to do chores.

SchunkelnWhile people danced to the popular Golden Keys from Kitchener the newer part of the club was hosting the German School Teachers conference. Some of the teachers had no idea that we have such a great building here and all sorts of functions, Schunkelnincluding dances. Hopefully they come back with friends. We left tired and happy just as the many door prizes were being announced.
