On Sunday May 18th the Festkonzert was held at the McIntyre Performing Arts Centre, Mohawk College, Hamilton.

All together 11 choirs presented a rich program to a nearly full theatre:

Germania Choirs; Deutscher Chor Montreal; Transylvania Chor, Kitchener; Concordia Chor, Ottawa; Lyra Chor, London; Concordia Choirs, Kitchener; Teutonia Choir, Stratford; Lorely Singers, Oshawa; German Ladies Choir of Calgary; Heidelberg Rheingold Singers; and Männerchor Harfentöne, Toronto.

Their program culminated in a mass choir presentation combining their 325 voices to a couple of rousing end performances: “Ich bete an die Macht der Liebe” and “They all call it Canada”. Directed by Linus Press these many voices sang with an astonishing clarity. Every word was understood. Not an easy task to accomplish and it received thunderous applause!

This varied program was mc-ed by David Simon and Sybille Forster- Rentmeister.

After that, back at the club, the celebration and singing and speeches continued. One thing stood out throughout the festivities: The individuals involved in this activity have a special zest for life that is infectious. Perhaps it is true that where people sing it is safe and good to stay, because people that are not nice have no songs.

Sybille reports as a German-Canadian about culture, arts, entertainment, community events from her unique perspective as an artist.
