Mother's Day at the Danube Swabian Club

President Toni Baumann welcomes all the mothersOne of the last events the Danube Swabian Club in Scarborough had was the Mother’s Day Banquet. President Anton Baumann and Erika Partsis as M.C.Erika Partsis, who had planned this event, could welcome a big crowd that filled the hall to capacity. It was a true community affair.

A lot of poetry was read, including from Emily Wallner, Miss Danube 2014, that day after the delicious meal prepared by Vienna Fine Foods. Mr. Baumann and Mrs. Katie Schwemlein, President of the Women’s Auxiliary, welcomed everyone and shared their thoughts on this special day about the special people we call mother.

Cheyenne Kertes, who heads up the youth group had a few words to say about Mother’s and Grandmother’s Day. She always does. She is also involved with the group and danced with them and Maya and Raina Nowicki, Christina Galowitch, Sofie Martin and Katherine O’Connell to the music of “Alle Vögel sind schon da” and “Der Mai ist gekommen”. It was absolutely adorable to watch the very small children trying to keep up. They did very well.

There were quite a few children around, playing and watching the proceedings from the upstairs gallery, making this a truly family affair.

Everyone was very appreciative of the good deeds that are performed by mothers and all those that care of others, thus agreeing with me, because I call this day Mothering Day.

The communal singing of our beloved folk songs topped it all off.

Now we look towards Father’s Day and wish all of them a very special and happy day.

Renovation at the German Consulate General Toronto concluded

Walter Stechel, Consul General of the Republic of Germany (l.)Walter Stechel, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, explained the refurbished German Consulate premises in a welcoming speech on May 27 in Toronto:

“After almost one year of work we are presenting our refurbished rooms.”

“Improving our consular services was actually the motive and reason for this important investment by the German government. Since the summer of last year we have concentrated the consular services for Eastern Canada in Toronto. We are now issuing German passports and German visa for residents between Manitoba and PEI.

I am confident that we are now well equipped to handle this increased work load.”

Mr. Stechel thanked everyone involved who rose to the challenge of working under the stress of the renovations and bringing German and Canadian standards to a very satisfying conclusion with lots of attention given to details.

Until next time
