November 2017 - Nr. 11
Sybille Forster-Rentmeister, Editor-in-chief

Dear Reader

Seldom has October been so busy and eventful, all the while the weather was delightful. Autumn only hit us in November. Just now it is fully apparent that rain and dampness, wind and possibly snow will have their way with us as punishment for having enjoyed temperate pleasures for too long.

Still it is hard to believe, because I have green trees in my
neighbourhood that refuse to surrender their summery tresses. I cling to those images if I possibly can and shudder at the thought of snow and ice. I take in my blooming geraniums and hang them into the bay window in my bedroom, so I can pretend a little bit longer that I am saving summer.

Thus, soon we turn our thoughts to the warming ideas of the coming festive season, trying to recall where we hid and stored the seasonal treasures to decorate our house with, right after we have remembered our heroes and victims of war and oppression.

Sybille, jumping in for Gerhard Griebenow, raises the German Flag at Queen's ParkOctober was National German Heritage month which culminated in a Flag Raising event at Queens Park. It was the best kept secret from the community. However, next year it might be combined with Pioneers Day and get more attention, we hope.

If you do not find something in the paper you might wait for the internet version, because not everything fitted into print version. There are also always many more photos for you to enjoy. Also feel free to send in something that you think the community might like to know about. Make sure that photos are of a good quality.

We will be visiting, already in November, the local Christmas markets. They are a good way to get into the mood and hope to see you there.

Until then
