Opera York Season Finale

Two by Puccini

Opera York, York Region’s professional opera company, completes its biggest season yet with two one hour operas by Puccini - Gianni Schicchi and Suor Angelica on March 19 & 23 at St. Elizabeth Theatre in Vaughan and on March 25 at the Markham Theatre. The title role of the comedy, Gianni Schicchi will be played by baritone Andrew Tees who recently brought the children’s classic Hansel & Gretel to life as the artistic director in Opera York’s December production. Also appearing in Gianni Schicchi will be soprano Zorana Sadiq as Schicchi’s daughter Lauretta, Baritone James Levesque as Schicchi’s son Marco, Tenor Michael Toby as Rinuccio, Lauretta’s betrothed, and Adam Luther as Gherardo.

The title role of the tragedy, Suor Angelica will be played by soprano Stacie Carmona who has been described by the National Post as "the whole package - voice, acting, and the kind of charisma that draws the eye". The all female cast of Suor Angelica includes contralto Deborah Overes as Zia Principessa, Soprano Renée Winick as sister Genovieffa, Adriana Albu, Ramona Carmelly, Vanessa Grant, Louisa Cowan, Andrea Rebello, Sarah Hallyburton, and Sara Papini.

Both full productions will be mounted under the artistic and musical direction of Sabatino Vacca.

Tickets are a $30 and are available by calling Opera York at 905-763-7853 for St. Elizabeth Theatre dates and 905-305-7469 for the Markham Theatre performance. For more information about Gianni Schicchi and Suor Angelica and Opera York visit our website at
