K-W Symphony Back on Track?

by Herwig Wandschneider

Well, not quite. KWS members have elected a new Board of Directors, who elected the Chair and Vice Chair, but key issues still need to be resolved. All signs point to orderly planning and setting of priorities. Meetings so far have been held in public, except for brief in-camera sessions for highly confidential issues.

For now the Board meets weekly to resolve the most pressing issues expeditiously. The former Executive Director, Michael Duschenes, has agreed to help out in the interim. He will assist with the task of selecting a new Executive Director, with setting of priorities, developing an appropriate operating structure, and to explain operations to the new Board.

The Board has already had a look at the somewhat unsatisfactory financial forecast, which seems to bring the status back at a cumulative debt level of some $700K by the end of the year.

The K-W public appreciates the new openness, which not only will establish confidence in the Board, but will also keep the Board operating efficiently with timely and well-considered decisions. Board members, for example, have not yet come to consider the key issues. Many wanted first to gain insight into the reasons that led to the dismissal of Fischer-Dieskau, before reinstatement comes to a vote.

The Volunteer issue also continues in limbo. Volunteers will continue to operate in the interim as they have before Fischer-Dieskau was fired, i.e. as an independent group, since re-organization had not been completed at the time.

The Board is handling the complex tasks before them professionally, one by one, and subscribers can look forward to well-considered management decisions, at least that is the way it looks now, based on the results of the first meetings.
