Tony Bergmeier – 70 Years Young

The accolades to Tony Bergmeier never ended at his recent Birthday party celebrated late last month at the Concordia Club in Kitchener. Many of the more than 50 guests to the event listed and humorously remembered the numerous organizations, which Mr. Bergmeier either founded or co-founded decades ago (and which are still active to this day), and the many community activities, which he either initiated or actively supported. Among those is the famous authentic Kitchener Christkindl Market, which he brought from Germany, re-created in Kitchener and still chairs and organizes.

In 1957 he completed the Meisterprüfung as Stukkateur at the Royal Residence in Munich. That same year he married Brigitte and they spent their extended honeymoon in Canada in the K-W Region. In the words of Mr. Bergmeier …."we are still on our honeymoon!"

Mr. Bergmeier is President of the German Canadian Congress (National), also Vice President of the same organization in Ontario, Vice President of the Remembrance Society, and a founding Director of the German World Alliance headquartered in Washington, DC. He held numerous executive positions in various organizations over the years, including 3 years as President of the German Canadian Business and Professional Association of Kitchener-Waterloo (1988 – 1990).

Aside from professional accolades, Mr. Bergmeier received moving poetic congratulations from his immediate family, his niece and his grand children, most of all from his devoted supporter: his wife Brigitte.

Echo Germanica joins in the best wishes for continued health and many more decades of continued participation in K-W community activities and German Canadian affairs.
