Spring Ball |

by Herwig WandschneiderThe K-W German-Canadian Business and Professional Association celebrated its 39th Anniversary with an Annual Ball at the Transylvania Club in Kitchener near the end of May. It is the second time in recent history that the Association chose to celebrate in May (instead of November, which was the prior practice) to emerge from the winter with "Schwung" into Spring and Summer - before many head for their cottages on the weekends. The President of the Association, Mr. Klaus Koeppen, welcomed members and their partners, as well as guests from Toronto and the K-W German-Canadian Clubs. Surprise guests were fresh newcomers from Germany, Dr. Thomas and Mrs. Geeta Kaus, who had just arrived a few days earlier from Europe to take over the praxis of a retiring Kitchener Dentist. Speeches were held to a minimum and the evening progressed smoothly under the competent MC-manship of Mr. Harry Drung, Vice President of the Business Association. The entire event was primarily organized, and the hall decorated in a spring theme, by the team of Mr. Manfred Blum and his wife Hilde, and Mr. Drung and his wife Ingrid. One of the highlights of the evening was no doubt the fantastic and imaginative dinner served to the well over 100 guests by Transylvania Club’s Chef – among club members simply known as "Chef Ziggy" - and his team. The dinner could easily compete in imagination, quality, presentation and service with any top restaurants well beyond this region. Surely no easy task to put together a hot plate dinner with the number of courses of this quality to so many people. With "Schwung" members and guests danced away the evening to the tunes of the "Golden Keys" in upbeat good spirits. Next year will be the Association’s 40th anniversary, an extraordinary event already in the planning stages for the same venue, and again towards the end of May.
