TORONTO, August 8, 2006- Harbourfront Centre celebrates its first ever festival of independent culture, IndieUNLIMITED, taking place August 25 through August 27, 2006! IndieUNLIMITED will be presented by NOW Magazine to commemorate its 25th anniversary. With the best in do-it-yourself music and culture, IndieUNLIMITED includes performances by headliners such as Herbert and The Hidden Cameras, and welcomes Indie Village – a full service artists’ resources centre.

IndieUNLIMITED will be a meeting of the minds for Canada’s biggest and brightest independent talent, from top electronica, rock and alt-country indie musicians, cutting edge theatre, buzz worthy film, integrated dance, literary artists, an information hub and activist art. All concerts and events are free admission! A schedule is attached.

MUSIC - A diverse array of international and national independent musicians will be taking the stage for IndieUNLIMITED, including power collaborator Herbert(UK); instrumental and vocal innovators Volcano!(Chicago); funky rockers The Chinese Stars; (Providence, R.I.)Montreal brewed global grooves with Nomadic Massive; transcendental mood rock supergroup Bell Orchestre(Montreal); rock punk expressionists Think About Life(Montreal); electro pop fun with Telefauna (Montreal), Vancouver based lyrical wizards They Shoot Horses Don’t They; and the rich sounds of TORNGAT(Montreal).

A noteworthy gathering of Toronto’s independent music acts will take part in IndieUNLIMITED. This includes the haunting melodies of 2004 Canadian Independent Music Award Winners Great Lake Swimmers; top singer/guitarist Amy Millan; a CD release show from The Hidden Cameras; mind blowing rock from Hylozoists; unique musical interpretations of The Singing Saw Shadow Show with Polmo Polpo; electro clash retro stylings with Fritz Helder & The Phantoms; vaudeville antics from Friendly Rich and The Lollipop People and a Shack Up! Showcase from DJ duo, Mikey Apples and Jaime Sin.

DANCE - Harbourfront Centre is pleased to present the Integrated Dance Artists Collective an interactive exploration of relationships and shared space, choreographed by Meagan O’Shea. The weekend will also feature performances by Series 8:08.

VISUAL ARTS - During the course of IndieUNLIMITED, Harbourfront Centre will host an installation from ARCfest, curated by Syrus Marcus Ware. ARC, which stands for Artists for Real Change, convey artistic interpretations of Canadian and international human rights and activism.

FILM – IndieUNLIMITED will screen the 2005 smash hit mockumentary, The Life and Hard Times of Guy Terrifico, featuring a who’s who of Canada’s music and pop culture insiders. From the Images Film Festival, a selection of local, national and international video and film will be shown from Images’ A Little Planet program.

INDIE VILLAGE - Harbourfront Centre is pleased to feature Indie Village as part of the inaugural IndieUNLIMITED festivities. This unique artists’ resource centre allows attendees an opportunity to hear and swap information about all things independent from theatre, film, music, dance, visual arts and more. With readings, vendor booths and networking, Indie Village will be a busy weekend destination. Confirmed Indie Village booths include Hot Docs and Artscape along with readings from Broken Pencil.

THEATRE – IndieUNLIMITED is pleased to present The Rat King Opera, a revolutionary "chamber rock" opera with groundbreaking performances from a cast and crew consisting entirely of Toronto indie artists. On hand will also be toy puppetry and theatre from the Cardboard Heart Imagination Laboratory.

KIDS – Harbourfront Centre offers early lessons for the do it yourself youngster with the music of Sir Jerry, a colourful cast of fantastical characters embarking on a mystical, musical journey. For the animatedly inclined, young minds will also be engaged by Learn to Draw Comic Art with Blac Ice.
