The little things?!!Ok, no doubt you must know that December is THE music month. What, with Christmas and all! It makes things a little stressful for some of us. Oh, how about a little carolling here, a Hallelujah Chorus there. Well, do you know that these things aren’t just whipped up at a moment’s notice. Mind you, with the Händel, you’d be surprised what can be accomplished with a few minutes notice! Welcome to the season of music! I absolutely love Advent and Christmas time as it really brings out many qualities that I look forward to. (I have yet to see a fleck of snow here in Zürich, other than the freak snow and hail we received in October!) All the planning that goes into any big production, be it musical, artistic, dramatic, journalistic is quite a feat. It’s relatively easy to take these things for granted, hey, I do as well. The tricky thing is to remember what really goes on behind the scenes. Things that look or feel so easy may be the hardest to accomplish; trained singers will tell you that any Mozart aria is not an easy sing. The subtleties involved are some of the most difficult to accomplish. But, what am I saying here? You may of course know what I mean by not taking things for granted at this time and maybe any time of the year; why should it be any different after the holidays? Amid the hustle and bustle, it’s easy to let certain things pass us by. I try to make a point of admiring the funny little things that are sometimes placed around us to brighten our day, as cliché as it sounds or is! Have a look at the seasonal lights (hopefully without having them put you in a trance; or maybe that’s what you like… Hey, more power to you!), the decorations, the food, etc. Did I mention the food?!!!! Now, there’s a topic unto itself! I end this little statement not trying to preach anything to you, but to throw an idea out there and to say that sometimes the funny little things are really the ones that can change a day around, a mood around, a sentiment… The idea is really up to you. Fly with it! And, as one of my dear colleagues always says: "May the force be with you!" Take it or leave it! Schönen Advent mitenand! Elizabeth
