Discover The World Of Wagner
With COC Lectures
Toronto, Ontario – During the 2005/06 season, the Canadian
Opera Company continues its engaging and informative Wagner lecture series
with Wagner 301: Götterdämmerung, and the return of Wagner 101.
Designed to help opera veterans and beginners learn more about Richard
Wagner and his operas that comprise the Ring Cycle: Der Ring des
Nibelungen, this series is offered in anticipation of the COC’s own
Ring Cycle in fall 2006.
Picking up where the Wagner 201 series of last season left
off, Wagner 301: Götterdämmerung takes an in-depth look at the final
instalment of the Ring Cycle, which sees the restoration of the
cursed rhinegold to its rightful owners. Through lectures, including
audio and video excerpts, members of the COC Speakers Bureau explore the
monumental work that is Götterdämmerung. Wagner 301 takes place
November 21 – 24, 2005 from 7 – 9 p.m. at four convenient locations in
Toronto: Metro Hall; The Assembly Hall; North York Civic Centre; and the
Chinese Cultural Centre. Admission is FREE, but registration is required as
space is limited.
Back by popular demand for a third year is Wagner 101.
Perfect for those new to Wagner, members of the COC Speakers Bureau will
once again present their lecture on Wagner’s epic saga of mortals and gods.
Wagner 101 takes place on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 from 7 – 9 p.m. at
Metro Hall in Council Chambers. Admission is FREE, but registration is
required.
