Will Tie the Knot
on The CNE Midway!
The CNE Hosts Second Annual Marriage on the Midway Contest
(Toronto, July 11, 2006)- The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) in conjunction with North American Midway Entertainment, announced the return of one of the fair’s most popular contests: Marriage on the Midway. Once again, one lucky couple will win the opportunity to tie the knot amidst the excitement of the CNE Midway. The contest officially launches July 17, 2006 on the CNE website (www.TheEx.com).
"The Marriage on the Midway contest captures the essence of what The Ex is all about," said CNE General Manager David Bednar. "We’re all about unique ‘live in the moment’ experiences and a wedding at the foot of the Ferris Wheel is as wild and wonderful an experience as you’ll find anywhere."
To enter, the potential bride and groom must submit a short essay (150 words maximum) explaining why they should be Married on the Midway along with a photo of themselves. Contestants are encouraged to visit the CNE website (www.TheEx.com) where they can fill out an entry form complete with their essay. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and be legal residents of Canada.
The judges will be looking for originality, creativity and sentimentality from all entries received. The top 10 entries will be posted on the website so the public can vote for their favourite couple from August 1 to August 16. The winning couple will be notified on August 17 and the wedding will take place on Saturday, August 26, 2006 at 10:30 a.m.
The wedding package includes: rings, bridal gown (ABS Allen Schwartz), tuxedo, flowers (1-800-Flowers), Justice of the Peace, limo service (RG Collection Vehicles), wedding cake, honeymoon package including two first-class tickets to Montreal, compliments of VIA Rail Canada and a Sirius Satellite Radio package. The winning bride and groom will be able to invite up to 100 people to attend their wedding and they’ll receive wristbands good for unlimited rides for four hours along with free midway food. The Toronto Sun and Mix 99.9 are this year’s media sponsors.
For more than 127 years, The EX has "marked the spot" for fun. As one of North America’s largest annual fairs, the CNE attracts well over a million people over 18 days each summer. The 2006 CNE takes place from August 18th to September 4th, with the CNE Horse Show and Casino opening on July 31st and continuing throughout the fair. General admission is $12 while attendees 60 and over, and children (13 and under) pay $8.
