COC Presents Canada’s First Complete

The Canadian Opera Company presents Canada’s first production of Richard Wagner’s epic tetralogy Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung) in its new home, the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. The Ring Cycle will be performed in three complete cycles on September 12 to 17, September 19 to 24. and September 26 to October 1, 2006 and is sung in German with English SUBTITLES™. An extraordinary team of internationally acclaimed artists have been assembled to create this monumental production. The four directors, each directing one opera will draw from their shared experience to create this unique collaboration. COC General Director Richard Bradshaw conducts all three cycles and illustrious Canadian designer Michael Levine’s scenic vision helps tie the four operas together. Mr. Levine also makes his directorial debut with Das Rheingold, the first installment of the complete cycle. Award-winning Canadian filmmakers and theatre directors Atom Egoyan and François Girard direct Die Walküre and Siegfried respectively. and esteemed theatre and opera director Tim Albery directs Götterdämmerung. David Finn is the lighting designer for the Ring Cycle. The COC’s Ring Cycle cast is comprised of internationally renowned artists, many of whom are considered the most prestigious Wagnerian singers today. The stellar line-up includes: Pavlo Hunka, Frances Ginzer, Susan Bullock. Adrianne Pieczonka.
