Betraying Our Children |
||
Today many children are diagnosed with a "so-called" Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and unfairly medicated with Ritalin or other addictive stimulant drugs. Help us enlighten parents and educators to realize there are other options to medicating children. Please broadly distribute this Information Bulletin Betraying Our Children to parents, family, educators, friends, etc.Thank you,
About ADHD Walk into an average school today and you could mistakingly think you walked into a mental health clinic, as kids line up for their daily Ritalin; a stimulant drug. Look closer and you will find right in the school yard kids selling Ritalin as"Kiddie Coke". Ritalin is a pyschiatric drug ─ methylphenidate, prescribed to children with a "so-called" Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Despite claims of irrefutable science, there are absolutely no objective criteria by which ADHD can be confirmed to exist. There is no scientific evidence proving a chemical imbalance in the brain is responsible for the symptoms attributed to ADHD; yet psychiatry repeatedly claims ADHD is a "brain-based disease." Psychiatrists identified and clustered the most annoying characteristics in a child’s behaviour and developed a "diagnostic criteria" to evaluate and label a child with ADHD. In 1987, the "diagnostic criteria" was presented to the American Psychiatric Association, whereby psychiatrists actually voted in ADHD by a "show of hands." What kind of society are we creating, and what will be the repercussions of over-medicated children? These mind-altering drugs have been known to induce acts of violence and suicidal tendencies.
Finding The Real Source Of The Problem Children at school are often bored, squirm in their seats, disturb classmates, daydream or get upset. In most cases, children are simply energetic and being kids, and we must not rule out a child’s attention span is not one of an adult. When children display behavioural or educational challenges, one should consider and assess the child’s family environment, upsets at home/school, sleep patterns, diet, existence of allergies, and so forth, by a non-psychiatric medical practitioner. In both cases, no proper assessment is conducted to find the real source of the problem. Children are unfairly evaluated against the unfounded "ADHD diagnostic criteria", and are said to be inattentive, impulsive, and hyperactive. As a result, children are unfairly labelled "ADHD" and medicated with Ritalin or other addictive stimulant drugs. We are unfortunately betraying our children.
