Toronto, October 3, 2006 … Baden-Württemberg meets Ontario: A German Arts Festival brings outstanding music, theatre, dance and film from the German state of Baden-Württemberg to Toronto. The debut festival will take place at venues throughout Toronto, October 12 – 19, 2006. Baden-Württemberg, Germany, prides itself on its contemporary culture - a fusion which combines an appreciation of things past with the desire to create something new. The fascinating tension between the traditional and the contemporary is reflected in a vibrant cultural landscape. Baden-Württemberg meets Ontario: A German Arts Festival, October 12 - 19, 2006 provides Canadians a glimpse of Baden-Württemberg’s multi-faceted cultural life. Baden-Württemberg and Ontario are linked by a partnership agreement that goes back to the early 1990s. Their structures are comparable in many ways, and both are modern industrial societies with a cosmopolitan outlook. Both attribute their economic success to excellent education and training systems. In addition, Baden-Württemberg and Ontario both have superb cultural institutions and offer excellent conditions for the development of art and culture. Baden-Württemberg meets Ontario: A German Arts Festival is sponsored by the state of Baden-Württemberg with the aim of enhancing relations between the German State and the province of Ontario. A gala celebration to mark the launch of both Baden-Württemberg meets Ontario: A German Arts Festival and The International Bach Festival will take place on Sunday, October 15 at 4:00 PM at the MaRS Centre, Discovery District, 101 College Street, Toronto.
