Newfoundland’s Duo Concertante Touring Southwestern Ontario this OctoberFollowing a summer of performances in Russia, Canada, and the U.S., Duo Concertante (Nancy Dahn, violin and Timothy Steeves, piano) revisits Ontario for a series of concerts and masterclasses between October 25, 2007 and October 30, 2007 as part of their 10th anniversary celebration. Hailed as "the next generation of classical music stars" (BRAVO! Television, The Classical Now series), Duo Concertante begins its tour with a recital at the University of Guelph on October 25, 2007 at 1:00pm. This season the Duo presents the complete cycle of Beethoven violin and piano sonatas; these October appearances feature the famous "Kreutzer" and "Spring" sonatas as well as op. 23, no. 4. They perform these masterworks at the Collingwood Music Festival on October 27, 2007, 8:00pm, and for the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Music Society on October 28, 2007, also at 8:00pm. Professors at Memorial University, Dahn and Steeves are also recognized as passionate and inspiring teachers whose students are frequent winners and finalists in competitions across Canada. They share their expertise with students in a public masterclass at the Faculty of Music at Wilfrid Laurier University on October 30, 2007, between 5pm – 7:00pm (www.wlu.ca). Also founding Artistic Directors of the Tuckamore Festival, the Duo have helped dozens of young musicians become winners and finalists in numerous competitions across Canada and internationally. McMaster University’s School of the Arts will host Duo Concertante for its final concert of this tour on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at 12:30pm in Convocation Hall. This tour marks the second trip this fall to Ontario for Nancy Dahn and Timothy Steeves, who appeared in Barrie’s Colours of Music festival in September, both as soloists and as chamber musicians. This 2007-2008 anniversary season will also include the release of Duo Concertante’s fourth CD, comprised entirely of encores arranged especially for them by Canadian composer Clifford Crawley. Featuring pieces ranging from "A Night in Tunisia" and "Tico Tico" to Mozart’s "Turkish March", this CD follows the Duo’s three previous ATMA recordings, all nominated for the ECMA’s "Best Classical Recording" in 2000, 2003 and 2005. This year, the Duo will also reprise its successful tour of Chin, revisiting the eight cities where they performed to millions via stage and television in 2005.
