Herbstfest
(Autumn Festival)…
…at the Donauschwaben Club. It seemed like the last
fling without snow – even though the temperature was just a
little above zero – to the many guests attending this event.
The hall was almost sold out, thanks to the efforts of the
Lady’s Auxiliary – the “Frauengruppe” of the club.
One new item had been added to the event, a new band ‘The
Edelweiss Trio’, consisting of an accordion player, a guitar and
a great drummer – who seemed to be the hardest working member of
the band. They were very good with a rich palette of familiar
tunes, and the dance floor was pretty crowded the whole evening.
I had been expecting the Golden Keys – like most of our readers
who saw the advertisement – but who doesn’t like an Edelweiss!
The Ladies had also organized a tombola – the largest raffle I
have ever seen – that was opened after the mid-break. Kudos to
the organizers, it was amazing to see hundreds of prizes
displayed in the foyer of the club. Not many of the guests went
home without at least one of the prices.
Cheyenne Kertes, the Miss Blue Danube, featured a lovely new
costume – no, nothing to do with Halloween. As a matter of fact
none of the guests did either. I guess our ‘Walpurgisnacht’
doesn’t have the kind of attraction it has on the younger crowd.
Heavy sugar content candy and chocolates seems to be no longer a
major attraction to our crowd.
A birthday celebration for

The club also has a new manager: Michelle Messina. She had good
control over all the important happenings in the background –
which the guests never realized, but which is so important to
assure a friction-free event. Well done Michelle! Erin is on
maternity leave. Congratulations, Erin.
As always
