Powell: German-American Friendship Will Endure |
||
TWIG - During a visit to Europe last week, U.S. secretary of state Colin Powell was interviewed on the German television program Heute Journal. When asked about the future of German-American relations, Powell said he was certain the two nations would work out their current differences and that their friendship would endure. The two nations will find their way back to one another during the reconstruction process at the end of the war in Iraq, said Powell. He promised the United States would not forget that Germany has been a friend for half a century, with common values and a common history, in common undertakings all over the world, from military missions in Afghanistan to the expansion of NATO, including the protection of U.S. bases in Germany during the conflict in Iraq. "We are friends and we will remain friends," said Powell. "We have to get through a difficult time. It hasn’t been easy for either of us, but we will make it."
