Pumpkinfest/Oktoberfest |

Downey’s Pumpkinfest……an unqualified success! I keep meeting readers at Downey’s that think the place is really cool. They saw my write-ups and the ads in the paper mention this when I meet them elsewhere, as well. This is the place to go in the fall to see thousands of pumpkins on the grass in front of the barn – an ocean of orange – with kids all over them. This is really what is the most attraction and fascination for the young ones – and the young at heart! Ask Grandma! It is the kids that get most of the attention at Downey’s with live entertainment, wagon rides, pony rides, trike track, dump truck slide, balloon typhoon, cow pasture pool, puppet shows and the bare bones band, farm animals & petting zoo, corn maze, black hole, boo barn and more. It is an opportunity for kids to see another world – too realize that there is life outside of the city too. Don’t bring you pets – there are enough already available at the "Kritter Korral" But it is another world for the parents too. Here they can shop for fresh vegetables and fruits, visit the winery and taste the various delicious, award winning fruit wines and have fun with their children at the same time, all of it in fresh, unpolluted country air! It doesn’t get much better than that! If you need to know what is in season at the farm market got to their website at: www.downeysfarm.on.ca and check it out. After the pumpkins move out – the Christmas merchandise moves in. Lein's OktoberfestLein’s Delicatessen store had its annual Oktoberfest in the beginning of October with wonderful sunshine all day. I noticed a number of the visitors picking our paper up to get at the coupon for the free sausage. I wonder if they ever read it? (And how did they know about the coupon if they didn’t read at least the back page?) The tent was up outside of the store; the Bratwursts were broiling on the grill and people that were not shopping inside the store, sat at the tables by the tent to enjoy the sun and to consume a bratwurst on a bun. Helmut Gschösser from CIAO Radio AM 350, provided the musical background to the event with evergreens and seasonal tunes. At the end of the day they celebrated Annie Bushman’s birthday again – as they did last year - in appreciation of all the help she provides to the store. Happy Birthday, Annie! r.k.a. |
