Bundesliga attendance tops league table |

TWIG - Germany’s Bundesliga first division soccer league is the biggest draw in European sports. A study by accountants Deloitte & Touche for the newsweekly Stern found that attendance at Bundesliga matches in the 2003/04 season was the highest of any league on the continent for the first time in four years. An average of 35,048 spectators attended German matches last season, more than the English Premiership, Italy’s Serie A and Spain’s La Liga. Despite the good news on attendance, the German league still has room for improvement when it comes to generating revenue, the accountants found. While English fans spent an average of 39 Eur ($47) on each game, German fans parted with just 19 Eur ($23). Those figures were reflected in the league’s total revenues of 1.1bn Eur ($1.3bn), less than the Premiership (1.8bn Eur, $2.2 bn) and the Serie A (1.2bn Eur, $1.4bn). Yet the Bundesliga’s growth prospects are strong, Deloitte found. "Thanks to new arenas in Moenchengladbach, Berlin and
Hanover, we’re anticipating higher attendance figures for next year as
well," said the firm’s sports expert, Stefan Ludwig. Links:
