48 Years
German Canadian Club Hansa!

On April 22, 2006 the club celebrated its 48th Anniversary at the Hansa Haus with Club President Reiner Walter welcoming the guests, followed by a gala dinner and performances by the Hansa Choir, with Wolf Schepp conducting and Inge Schepp at the keyboard. A delightful young lady, 7-year-old Brittnie Spriel, surprised the audience with the solo "Die Nachtigal". It was a pleasure to listen to this clear young voice. The Hansa dance groups, Weiss Blau Bayern Jr. Schuhplattler, Weiss Blau Bayern Sr. Schuhplattler, and the Volkstanzgruppe Almrausch each danced one of their favourite dances and then all groups joined together in a grand finale.

Mayor Hazel McCallion [photo: Siegfried Schicht]MC was board member Boe Hladysh. Mississauga Councillor Mrs. Adams said a few encouraging words and than the indestructible Mayor of Mississauga Hazel McCallion took to the floor and acknowledged the tremendous contributions German Canadians have made to built the Canada we know. She proudly showed off her "Bundesverdienstkreuz" pinned on her lapel right underneath the "Order of Canada". She also admitted to another reason that she attended this function. It was to see her grand daughter, Erika McCallion, dance with the Blau Weiss Schuhplattler.

Michael Halls represented Mayor Susan Fennel of Brampton.

After this, the Matt Lebar Ensemble took over and inspired the guests to dance, dance the night away.
