TORONTO, ON – The winter months are a lot more exciting when you’re having fun! Harbourfront Centre’s SKATE CULTURE events continue in 2011 with more Learn to Skate and DJ Skate Saturday Nights events on the Natrel® Rink.

The New Year kicks off with more sessions of Learn to Skate classes starting after Jan. 5 and Feb. 2, 2011 Harbourfront Centre offers over 100 special Learn to Skate courses designed for children, teens and adults, along with private and group lessons and drop-in clinics. Each four-week session teaches participants basic ice-skating techniques including balance, starting, stopping, pivots and crossovers (based on individual progress and skating ability).

Once you’ve mastered your skating technique, skate along to some of Toronto’s hottest DJs at the popular DJ Skate Saturday Nights. Every Saturday night (from Jan.8 to Feb.19) features a new set of DJs spinning the hottest tunes, including 44th and Filth and Promise DJs. Other highlights include a special Kuumba presented by TD celebration featuring a Motown Mixer with Detroit’s DJ D Brown and a Soca on Ice event with Flow 93.5 FM personality Dr. Jay de Soca Prince.

All SKATE CULTURE events take place on or around one of two outdoor rinks at Harbourfront Centre. The beautiful Natrel® Rink is located along the scenic shores of Lake Ontario at 235 Queens Quay West. The Natrel® Kinder Rink is located just a few steps away under the Lakeside Terrace Tent, and is made from a revolutionary material that you can skate on all year round.

And if you start to feel a winter chill, you can warm your fingers and toes next to our outdoor, staff-controlled fire pits or grab a quick bite at the Lakeside Eats restaurant right next to the rink!

Natrel Rink

Open daily, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.,
Friday, Saturday and Sunday until 11 p.m. (weather permitting).

A popular skating destination in the heart of the city! Visitors can enjoy Toronto’s favorite artificially-cooled outdoor rink while skating to music and taking in the beautiful surroundings of Lake Ontario and the Toronto Islands. The rink is easily accessible by TTC and by car. Parking is available. There are also on-site skate rentals, change rooms, rental lockers and skate sharpening. The Natrel® Kinder Rink

Open daily year-round from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Thanks to Artificial Grass & Landscaping (AGL), the exclusive North American distributor, Harbourfront Centre is pleased to provide the optimal place for the public to learn how to skate and practice before moving on to the bigger skating rink. The Natrel ®Kinder Rink is made from a revolutionary material with a 98% resemblance to conventional ice rink surfaces, so you can wear regular ice skates and skate on it all year round!

Learn to Skate

January session: Jan. 5 - 30, 2011. (weather permitting). February session: Feb. 2 - 27, 2011. (weather permitting).

DJ Skate Saturday Nights

Saturdays, Jan. 8 to Feb. 19, 2011 from 8 p.m.-11 p.m.

Toronto’s top DJs get the party started at Toronto’s premier ice skating event. This winter’s DJ Skate Saturday Nights series features FREE late-night skating with DJs spinning a mix of groovy tunes including house, funk, soul, soca, reggae, bhangra and pop-rock!

HarbourKIDS:
Family Skating Party presented by RBC

Feb. 21, 2011 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

This Family Day, kids and their families can participate in a number of FREE Beat the Blues activities including skating, dancing, drumming and more! Highlights include a special appearance by Olympic hockey champion Jayna Hefford and Paralympic gold medalist Greg Westlake!
