One of the most special occasions in
any German club is the “Kinderbescherung”, a seasonal activity
that sees children, parents and grandparents come together for
some yuletide fun.

In the Hansa Club they were welcomed by the Hansa Choir under
the direction of Dieter Wütherich. All the members were sitting
on the stage, while singing our traditional “Weihnachtslieder”
and choir members reading poetry, thus leaving plenty of room
for the kids to roam around while the grownups were having
coffee and cake.

This December there seemed to be more kids than ever before. The
club prepared gifts for 40 children and was surprised by
grandparents with another almost equally big number of
unannounced children. Their eyes were shining in anticipation of
Santa Claus coming not only to town but actually arriving in the
Club, which eventually he did. But first they sang along under
the guidance of Dieter Wütherich and some of the children
participated in the “Little Drummer Boy” song by using kitchen
utensils as sticks and drums to do the papaparapam. What a
wonderful Mr. Wütherich had!
Then Santa and his elf arrived.

All children sat on Santa’s lap to receive a gift from one of
his helpers. Astonishing was that no one cried this year. And if
the kids were too small to understand what this was all about it
was a memorable occasion for the proud and happy parents to
spend their children’s early Christmas experience in this
communal setting. Many photos were snapped to commemorate this
event.
