Several times already the Hansa Club in Brampton has offered a classical concert to its friends and members. Produced and narrated by Walter Kornelson these Sunday afternoons are entertaining in the best way.
Walter Kornelson always has a few interesting bits of
information about a composer. He also has a good roaster of
artists available, some of which we have grown accustomed
to,
like Wendy Dobson, soprano, who delighted the last time we saw
her again with some old time favorites like: “Ich bin die
Christel von der Post” by Zeller, “Lippen schweigen” from
Lehar’s Lustige Witwe, and many more. She performed at least 8
pieces and blew everyone away with her rendition of “Casta Diva”
from Bellini’s Norma. What is most interesting about her is that
she is studying to have a medical carrier. She finances her life
and studies with concerts and giving singing lesson to quite few
students, one of which we met again at this latest concert. She
is still a high school student.
A return artist was also Vanessa Grant, mezzo-soprano, another voice of quality. She is best loved when she belts it out, like with “Seguidilla” from Bizet’s Carmen or a much loved aria from Puccini’s La Boheme.
Whether he sings solo or in a duet, Douglas Tranquada pleases everyone with his warm baritone voice that has quite a range. His talent for acting, especially comedy, makes him great fun to watch on stage and a favorite with the ladies.
Completing the five-some was tenor Lenard Whiting. He pleased his audience with Lehar’s “Dein ist mein ganzes Herz”, “Oh
Mädchen, mein Mädchen” from Lehar’s Frederike, “Wien Du Stadt
meiner Träume”, and selections from Wanger, Donizetti and
Mozart, including “Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schön“, and an all time favorite, “Der Vogelhändler bin ich , ja…“.
