A huge number of
guests had arrived... |
Every so often the Danube Swabian Club in Scarborough
manages to book a traveling show of artists for a performance at
the club. This one, managed by Gisela Lewis, was another one of
the many successful endeavors by the club.
A huge number of guests had arrived early enough for
the Buffet Dinner, before the performances. When I say huge, I
mean “Huge”. I haven’t seen the club that crowded in a long time
– they even had to set up extra tables on half of the dance
floor to accommodate all the guests – it was marvelous indeed.
But since dancing was not on the menu, this did not matter and
the general mood remained festive throughout.
Promptly at 8 pm., after the welcoming address by Tony Baumann,
the club’s president, the very talented “Pfälzer Buam”, Manuel
(accordion)and Marcel (guitar) Lenhart –took the stage to set
the mood for the evening with a rich palette of wonderful songs
that reminded the audience of the time ‘way back when’.
Gaby and her husband Ralf Kleisinger, “The Duo Mosaique” who
spent most of the time entertaining the audience off stage and
at floor level, followed them with an especially rich repertoire
of ‘Evergreens’.
Speaking of audience participation – Wow – this
was a real revelation to me, and when young Romy Dadlhuber
appeared next, the audience really played along. What a grateful
crowd! Especially when Romy stepped on a table to sing and to
flirt with the older gents in the audience the guests nearly
went ballistic. (Getting off the table did present a small
problem though) She is a coming star, and one that the world of
entertainment should keep an eye on!
This mood kept going when Axel Becker, a gifted tenor, took over
the room – and I mean ‘took over’, the applause seemed to rise
to almost a crescendo – also when he joined the Pfälzer Buam
back on the stage for the balance of his outstanding
performance. Some of his background: 1997 – Volkstümliche
Hitparade:’1st Prize’, plus 6 record albums & 18
Maxis and much more.
(Schlaf in meinen Träumen ein; Ich kann nicht leben ohne Dich;
etc.)

Together on
stage |
For many of the guests the first 2 hours seemed to go by much
faster as did the balance of the performances after the
intermission. It is amazing how only six people can keep such a
large audience in stitches all evening!
As always
