Crown Picnic

Maria & Joe Stritzl

It was the 13th – Saturday not Friday Joe Stritzl with daughter Kim– when way out in King City, Joe and Maria Stritzl had invited almost the whole world to their famous annual CROWN picnic. Even a busload of visitors from Kitchener arrived – a little late since they had been stuck on the 401 for some time, due to a serious accident. The weather was practically perfect and there was enough shade under the umbrellas at each table if the sun got too strong.

An original Mexican Mariachi Band was strolling and entertaining the guest right from the start.

The Golden KeysNext in line were the Golden Keys and joining them on stage was a family of wasps again, yes, like at the Burgenländer picnic earlier this summer. Since there was no way to evacuate the stage area, they just had to learn to live in harmony with them.

The Matt Lebar EnsembleThe Matt Lebar Band – which entertained later on in the afternoon – also had no serious problems. The dancers as well did not report any problems with the wasps – the dance floor on the stage was always filled and, when necessary Siggi Leipold functioned as Master of Ceremonies. Later in the afternoon Walter Ostanek – The Polka King – entertained with his fabulous palette of lovely Evergreens.

Beer, wine and soft drinks were available and it was gratifying to see that LEIN’s Catering Service was supplying the food – as at past picnics - with fantastic gourmet delights. It was the typical “take all you want – eat all you take” situation. I didn’t hear anything but praise for the food and the service.

Sybille admires a horse of the estateWho were the guests? Basically what is still active in the German Community – most of them in their senior years – I could list some of the more prominent members of the community, but “God forbid” I should forget one! I cannot afford to do that! I Happy birthday!!!wouldn’t hear the end of it. (since there were about 780 of them). At about 10:00 pm the party started to break up, the guests were tired but still smiling. They had had a good time!

As always
