As I’m writing this report, I can’t help but smile as I think
back to the great time we had at our 2012 Karneval Dance on
January 28th at Club Loreley. It was definitely a fun filled
evening with excellent food and great entertainment by the Euro
Connection and great dancing by all four of our Dancer groups
who performed their new Funkengarde routines. The Seniors
finished the evenings performances with their energetic, crowd
pleasing Can Can. The dancers are so full of energy and they
have a way of putting a smile on everyone’s face. Many prizes
were awarded for best costumes and I’m quite sure that the
judges had a difficult time choosing the winners. Many thanks to
our judges for a fun, yet difficult job. There seemed to be more
costumes and such a variety this year so it was even more
difficult for Judges to choose. In my eyes - everyone was a
winner!

This year we have a total of 37 dancers. We must be doing
something right! Having such great teachers, supportive parents
and an extremely devoted dancer committee all contributes to our
success and along with the Club members that came out to help
celebrate made for a good sized crowd. Yes - Club Loreley is
alive and kicking and we all could feel the positive vibes and
energy throughout the night. What else could you ask for!
Thanks to Tom Henninger for being such a great Master of
Ceremonies and to Gabriele Albrecht for organizing tables and
ticket sales and to Jacquie, Olivia and Gabriele for the great
job decorating the hall. We were thrilled to have our First K.G.
Loreley president with us Hubert Adebar. He even proudly wore
his original Karneval uniform. I always enjoy conversations with
him about the old times and obviously I still have a lot to
learn.
We had a number of Ordens presented as well. Congratulations to
Julia Henninger, Meghan Harper, Elizabeth Chea, Brian Dimock,
Eric Burghardt, Tom Henninger, Kim Sanders and myself for being
involved with our Karneval group over the years. Special mention
to Kim Sanders as
she received her Canadian Beaver with Maple
Leaf in Gold. She started dancing in Kinders in 1989 and she has
continued on through all dancer groups and has been a
Junior/Senior teacher for a number of years since. Now that’s
commitment!
On a sad note we truly missed not having Dick Altermann at our
event as he passed on January 8th 2012. Dick was always so
supportive of Karneval activities and always complimented our
Club for embracing the Youth. I was fortunate to have many
conversations about Karneval with Dick over the years. Gone but
not forgotten - a last Alaaf and Helau to you, Dick!
