Announcing Winners Of Trips To Germany

Funds Raised for Toronto’s Covenant House

Prize draw with Ingrid Scherer-Mohr (GNTO), Cornelia Nindl, Heike Hoffmeister, Andrea Johnston (Covenant House)Toronto – Marion Langford and Steven Wong, both of Toronto, are the lucky winners of two trips to Germany. Both attended the German National Tourist Office’s "Destination Germany’ event that took place from May 13 to 16 on the patio at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto, highlighting Germany’s province of Baden-Württemberg and the Black Forest. It will be Steven Wong’s first time ever in Germany, and for Marion Langford the prize means revisiting a country that she’s last seen in 1956.

Sponsored with return airfares by Star Alliance partners Lufthansa and Air Canada, both trips are for two persons each. Steven Wong won the luxury four-night, five-day Rhine cruise between Basel and Amsterdam with Viking KD Line, including two first-class, 15-day Eurail Passes from Rail Europe, Toronto. Marion Langford also won first-class train transportation, a 10-day German Rail Flexi Twin Pass, courtesy of European Rail Services, Toronto. Her prize also includes two nights in each of Baden-Württemberg’s three most popular tourist destinations – the city of Stuttgart, with its many cultural treasures; the resort town of Titisee, near Freiburg, in the heart of the Black Forest, and Baden-Baden, Europe’s most legendary spa.

Entering the prize draw was free, but entrants were asked for a voluntary contribution to Toronto’s Covenant House. Canada’s largest support agency for homeless youth, Covenant House provides nightly shelter for up to 80 kids. In 2001, it helped more than 5,000 young people with services ranging from medical care to vocational programmes and counselling.

‘Destination Germany’ was one of more than 20 events – in 11 Toronto locations – comprising the First Canadian-German Festival, Toronto 2002 (April 25 to June 1). For more information about the festival, visit www.canadiangermanfestival.ca , or phone 416-925-2813 ext. 23.
