American travellers flock to Germany |

TWIG - More and more Americans are discovering Germany’s unique mix of old world charm and metropolitan flair. Official figures released this week showed a strong increase in the number of U.S. tourists that are visiting a country that gets good marks for its strong tradition of warm hospitality. During the first six months of 2004, the number of overnight stays by U.S. visitors jumped 19% to over 2 million, outpacing an overall increase of 11% for all overseas visitors. In comparison, U.S. travellers made 3.8 million overnight stays in Germany during the past year. The dramatic increase came despite a hefty drop in the dollar’s value against the euro and some Americans’ lingering reluctance to fly internationally following the September 11 attacks. Americans account for the second-largest contingent of
foreigner visitors to Germany after the neighboring Dutch. Links: German National Tourist Board
