BACH AND BARTOK MAKE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC

NOVEMBER 26 AND 27 ON MOOREDALE CONCERTS

Take the baroque buoyancy of Bach. Add a brilliant baritone and the bracing beauty of Bartok. And you have an unforgettable experience with Mooredale Concerts, Saturday, November 26, 8 p.m. at Willowdale United Church, 349 Kenneth Avenue (four blocks south of Finch, one block east of Yonge), and Sunday, November 27, 3 p.m., at Walter Hall, University of Toronto, 80 Queen’s Park Crescent, (south of the R.O.M.; Museum subway). Single tickets are $25; seniors and students, $20. For tickets and information, call 416-922-3714, ext. 103. More information is also on-line at www.mooredaleconcerts.com.

Baritone Jason Nedecky, who has sung in professional stage productions and in recital in Toronto and other centres, sings J.S. Bach’s glorious cantata Ich habe genug (I am satisfied). Nedecky is one of two featured Young Artists on the program. The other is oboist Tamsin Johnston, who joins him in a baritone-oboe duet as part of the Cantata.

The other performers in the cantata and the rest of the program are violinists Etsuko Kimura and Liana Berube, violist Eric Paetkau, cellist Jonathan Tortolano, and harpsichordist Paul Jenkins.

Tamsin Johnston also performs the Sonata in A minor for Oboe Solo, H. 562 by C.P.E. Bach. Also on the program is a Bach cello suite. Paired with the Bachs is 20th century Hungarian composer Bela Bartok, represented by his inventive String Quartet No. 3 and folkloric Violin Rhapsody No. 1, the latter performed by Etsuko Kimura and pianist Stephen Runge.

Mooredale Concerts are presented with the assistance of the Toronto Arts Council.

MUSIC & TRUFFLES, Mooredale Concerts’ classical series for children four and up features Bartok: What are those weird, strange, exciting, sweet sounds? Sunday, November 27, 1 p.m. at Walter Hall. Tickets, $10, may be ordered through Mooredale Concerts.
