INSTRUMENT PETTING ZOO KICKS OFF
ORCHESTRA TORONTO’s
"AFTERNOONS AT THE SYMPHONY"

Toronto, October 5, 2005 ---- Orchestra Toronto’s 51st season, featuring a series of five Sunday "Afternoons at the Symphony" for the whole family, gets under way at the Toronto Centre for the Arts on Sunday, October 23, 3 pm, and will include an Instrument Petting Zoo

for the added enjoyment of both children and adults.

The first concert, "Afternoon at the Fair", will feature guest soloist Sara Davis Buechner, a Vancouver-based classical concert pianist whose performances and recordings have garnered worldwide acclaim. The program will include Ridout’s Fall Fair, Mendelssohn’s The Fair Melusine, B.Herman’s Macabre Concerto and Stravinsky’s Petrouchka (1947).

Errol Gay, Music Director, is thrilled to be leading this group of superb volunteer musicians, and says: "Their level of commitment, enthusiasm and musicianship is second to none." He adds, "Orchestra Toronto presents the very highest quality of community music-making by a full, 80-piece orchestra, performing in what is acoustically one of the finest concert halls in North America."

The Instrument Petting Zoo, compliments of Long & McQuade Limited Musical Instruments, will take place before the concert and at intermission in the lobby area. This annual, special treat is a wonderful opportunity for children, youth and even parents and grandparents to try out the wide selection of instruments that are on display.

All Orchestra Toronto’s performances are held at the Toronto Centre for the Arts where it is a Company in Residence, at 5040 Yonge Street (north of Sheppard Avenue) in the George Weston Recital Hall. Individual tickets and affordable subscriptions for all five concerts can be purchased at adult, senior/student and children/youth rates, ranging from $125 (Adult subscription) to $10 (single Child/Youth).

Call 416.467.7142 for subscription information. Single concert tickets may be purchased at the Toronto Centre for the Arts box office or through TicketMaster (416.872.1111 or ticketmaster.ca).
