A Note from Me

Rachel A.I. SeilernFor 21 year olds, I guess it’s normal for life to seem like someone turned on the blender. School, jobs, bills, relationships, responsibilities—grown-up stuff collides with the aftermath of the teenage years. At 21 we feel the pressure to be making life decisions that will affect our next half century.

My life is taking on new flavour and it’s busy in a mixed-up milkshake kind of way. I am working on learning to drive now---I’ve given up all hope of a chauffeur. I’m having in-car lessons and sleepy classroom sessions. Besides learning basic skills most adults suggest are useful, I am trying to figure out what to do with my life! What step do I take with my violin?—some suggest school, others an orchestra. A recording studio door has opened for me. We’ll see what happens with that! I’ve taken on some more music courses; history and harmony. Music is a big part of me but since I can’t live on music alone, I’m finally peeking into what I’m really passionate about: Children and social work! I’ve begun my search for a way to work with troubled children and youth. This month I’m also starting to volunteer in the children’s section of Newmarket Hospital. All these new things are just added together with my normal busyness of teaching violin, piano and singing, assisting in a theatre arts program with 32 public school children, practising violin and vacuuming (see January 2005 issue!). So, friends, with this I conclude that I will be taking a hiatus, a little break from writing. I need some time to sort things out and perhaps juice up my creativity for more writing in the future. I thank you so much for reading my articles every month. I’m so tickled that you liked them!

With love,

Rachel

P.S.

Rachel’s Milkshake Extraordinaire for Two

  • Two Balkan-style yogurt cups

  • Two hand-fulls of frozen mixed berries

  • Two cups of Soya or regular milk

  • 1 tablespoon of real maple syrup

(Adjust ingredients to taste)

Throw it all in a blender and press the start button until creamy and frothy! Pour into two tall glasses and enjoy!
