Xing Dance Theatre’s new project INK

Choreographed by Xing Bang Fu, performed by Xing Dance Theatre, this new innovative dance creation by Xing Bang Fu, is inspired by the ancient Chinese art of calligraphy. Xing creates through movement the eternal energy of Yin and Yang. The four fundamental strokes of the Chinese written language produce powerful images with haunting lyrical meditation. INK emphasizes melodic visual interpretation of body movements through pure enigmatic dance of majestic beauty.

With highly developed movements and vocabulary, Xing Bang Fu integrates his own personal and contemporary style for his new creation. Xing fuses martial arts, ballet and modern dance movements to produce a contemporary expression that is passionate, challenging, inspiring to touch and move audiences on an emotional, physical and spiritual level, just like we are used to from this magical dance master.

Choreographer, performer and artistic director of Xing Dance Theatre, Xing Bang Fu has been creating and performing in his own dance theatre productions since 1987. His recent work includes Love Project (2005) Farewell My Concubine (2005) Rice (2004) Dream of The Red Lantern (2002) and White Snake (2001). He as also choreographed for the Guangzhou Ballet, China; Butterfly Lovers (2003) Yellow River (2002) was met with great critical acclaim and toured internationally.

INK features stage design by Simon Sylvain Lalonde, himself also a well-known dancer, and costume design by Eric Wong. Chak Au is the Production Stage Manager.

Tickets can be obtained at the performance space at the box office 454 College Street, 416-929-3019 for performances at the same address on April 21, 22, 28 and 29. All shows start at 8 pm at the Xing Dance Theatre Studio, where magic is close at hand when watching Xing dance so close, you can smell the grease paint.

This is not to be missed by dance enthusiasts who are looking for something different and new. SFR.
