Red Dress Productions Presents:

Never Man’s Land

Announcement: Tristan R. Whiston awarded Spain’s most prestigious broadcasting prize, the Premios Ondas for his documentary Middle C. The documentary also wins a silver medal at the New York Festivals.

November 21, 2007. Toronto, Ontario? Red Dress Productions is proud to announce the premiere of their new production Never Man’s Land opening January 31, 2008 at the Alchemy Studio Theatre. Written and directed by Tristan R. Whiston and featuring Anna Camilleri, Christopher Cauley and Canon Cook, with video art by Leslie Peters and Marcus Rak and movement by Kathleen Rea.

It’s 2008, and Peter is poised at the edge of a question that must be answered in order to grow up. Is he a man, a woman, or betwixt and between? In the nightmarish Victorian era of James Barrie’s Peter Pan, Peter ran away the day he was born in order to remain a boy forever. Never Man’s Land is a treacherous place, and it is here that Peter and Peter come face to face with Captain Hook, Wendy, Mrs. Darling, and ultimately, each other. The two Peters lock swords?and there’s only room for one on the island. Time is running out.

Never Man’s Land continues Red Dress Productions’ mandate to create innovative and socially relevant theatre. Never Man’s Land is a theatrical mosaic, conjuring up a dreamlike, almost nightmarish world brought to life by a dynamic cast of three actors portraying over a dozen characters. Writer/Director Whiston, along with his internationally renowned creative team, tackles issues of gender identity as imposed and/or chosen in this vibrant theatre piece that layers video, movement, original writing, and adapted text from James Barrie’s Peter Pan. The result is a fluid, multidisciplinary, hybrid style of theatre.

As Co-Artistic Director of Red Dress Productions, Tristan R. Whiston most recently directed Sounds Siren Red for the company. He was the Artistic Director and founder of the Boychoir of Lesbos and has developed several original pieces as founding Co-Director of Del ARTiE Productions including the infamous Get Stuffed. Anna Camilleri is the acclaimed author of I Am a Red Dress, which she adapted for the stage into Sounds Siren Red. She has been hailed as a "cultural agitator" (Now Magazine) and "tough, visceral and funny" (Atlanta Journal). Christopher Cauley is a multidisciplinary artist and Canon Cook recently performed in TransCab. Kathleen Rea is an award winning choreographer who has worked with the National Ballet, Ballet Jorgen and Bravo Television. Leslie Peters’ video art, akin to "abstract colour-field paintings (Globe and Mail)," has screened internationally from Barcelona to Buenos Aires, Poland to Australia.
