Hamilton ON – After a season’s hiatus
from main-stage production Opera Hamilton takes to the stage of
Hamilton Place with a new production of Mozart’s fantasy masterpiece,
The Magic Flute. Having dealt with long-standing financial
challenges, the company returns, revived, renewed and strengthened.
An incredible enthusiasm has been fueled by the passionate support
of the community and the tireless and determined efforts of Opera
Hamilton’s board and staff.
The company’s successful revitalization has been reflected in the
confidence shown by the community’s continued support. Full season
subscription goals have already been surpassed by $30,000 and subscriptions
will be available until October 31. Single ticket’s are now on sale
for all events.
On October 30 and November 1, 2008 Opera Hamilton will bring the
magic of opera back to Hamilton with a spectacular production of
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s The Magic Flute. The large cast
includes a roster of internationally acclaimed artists: Shannon
Mercer as Pamina, Colin Ainsworth as Tamino, Audrey Elizabeth Luna
as Queen of the Night, Kevin Langan as Sarastro and Alex Dobson
as Papageno. The Magic Flute will be directed by Michael
Cavanagh and conducted by Opera Hamilton General Director David
Speers. Sets and costumes are from the Opera Company of Philadelphia.
The performance will feature the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra,
Opera Hamilton Chorus and members of The Hamilton Children’s Choir.
Performances of The Magic Flute will be sung in the original
German, with projected translations. Spoken dialogue will be in
English.
