Happy New Year from Echo Germanica

Hi,

I'm sure by now you have heard of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. A severe earthquake and a series of aftershocks have hit just 10 miles west of Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince. Details are still emerging regarding the extent of damage and devastation, but with this country’s infrastructure already in a delicate state, the earthquake brings with it such a catastrophic blow that a worldwide plea is being issued for help. Tens of thousands are feared dead.

I work very closely with a charity called Artists for Peace and Justice to raise awareness and much needed funds for the already poverty-stricken country of Haiti. Founded last year by academy award-winning director/writer Paul Haggis, Artists for Peace and Justice provides funding to Father Rick Frechette, an American doctor and community organizer working in the slums of Port-au-Prince for over two decades. He and his small team have built an orphanage, medical clinics, street schools and a pediatric hospital. Father Rick has confirmed that both of his hospitals have sustained considerable damage, one of which has collapsed completely while his orphanage is in shambles. For a country that already suffers so much, these losses are devastating beyond belief.

Father Rick and his team desperately need your support. As emergency workers begin to dig out from the destruction there is a tremendous need for medical aid, food and water. Please donate directly at artistsforpeaceandjustice.com. 100% of all donations will be directed to Father Rick and his relief efforts on the ground in Haiti.

Artists for Peace and Justice is steadfast in its determination to send 100 % of all funds raised back to Father Rick and his programs in Haiti. We’ve made impressive first steps by raising enough funds to fully sponsor three schools. These schools aren’t just a place to learn but provide for a hot meal, clean water and a chance at the future to children who desperately need it. Artists for Peace and Justice made that happen and I look forward to seeing the children’s smiles when we return in the new year.

All my love,

Natasha
