I recall the times, when I was young.
The times when I was in my prime,
The many songs that I had sung,
The many flings that I had flung,
‘Twas only then – I couldn’t see
That GOD was walking there, with me.
The many friends that I have met
And all the help that I did get
From people just like you and I
Never questioned what or why
‘Twas never quite for me to see
That GOD was walking there with me.
From then to now, the time has flown
Many the changes that I have known,
Friends I’ve lost and friends I’ve found,
Friends indeed and love profound
Slowly to realize – slowly to see,
That GOD was walking there with me.
I’ve never stopped to wait and see
What all the growth has done for me
I just kept going on and on
Enjoying freedoms newly won
I learned it then – and I could see,
That GOD was walking there with me.
The day I stop – the day I die
No longer questing – where or why
Friends please rejoice for now I’m free
To find the I – to find the me
And GOD no longer walks with me,
It’s HIM I’m going now to see.
