Smash Hit Fundraiser

Greeting the honoured guest, Dave Devall (c.)The Danube Swabian’s annual fundraiser in Scarborough is a bit of a legend. Every year the entertainment has packed the house to the last seat. Every diehard supporter of the club makes an effort to turn up and partake in the popular evening. Dressed in their finest they interpret the concept of gala to the hilt. Tuxedos and long gowns prevail, Sybille and the weatherman, Dave Devallunless someone is Scottish like Dave Devall, the CTV’s weatherman, who of course turned up in a dress kilt. He was kept busy by folks coming to his table to have a picture taken with him. Actually I saw more formal wear in the club than I saw at the last opening night at the opera.

Couples/Friends

The evening started of course with a reception in the upstairs lounge, the landing of a broad staircase and the balcony, for those that have not been there. Champagne cocktails and delectable canopies were in ample supply and almost too generous before the sumptuous meal that was to come shortly afterwards.

Table Companions

Already the Venetian chicken soup turned into an instant favourite. A Mirage Salad preceded Caesar’s Palace Wellington Beef with White Asparagus& Hollandaise Sauce, Glazed Carrots and Pommes Croquettes. Dessert was also following the Las Vegas theme with a Pink Flamingo, coffee and tea.

President Brigitte Wecker announces "Viva Las Vegas"The entertainment was provided by Frank Vogl, a showman through and through with his Las Vegas style performers cMulti-talentedonsisting of a couple - he is from Ireland she is from Australia - and a few good showgirls/dancers and an additional musician. Frank Vogl probably inherited music from his Austrian parents, he told us, and we believe him!

Viva Las Vegas

The "Bunkers"The entire night was filled with a variety program that did not leave out any traditional Vegas"Liberace" type venue. Showgirls kicked their legs high in different costumes, stars appeared and disappeared after a sample of their special talents, musicians of world fame put in an appearance:

"Benny Hill"We admired fabulous versions of Benny Hill, The Bunkers, Liberace, Guess who?Dolly Parton and many more. Jokes and anecdotes were abundant, and some of them did not even touch the subject of libido. Hurray!

Scenes from the Show

Captivated audienceThe audience was very animated and receptive to this great performance and awarded the artists with much applause at the end.

Finale!

An elegant affairPresident Brigitte Wecker was on hand to thank everyone for coming to help raise funds for the club; hopefully it was a lot!

We can hardly wait for the next Gala!

Until next time
