15th Annual Toronto Symphony Orchestra Fine Wine Auction & Festival Announced

May 27, 2005 - Toronto: Lois McFarquhar, President of the Toronto Symphony Volunteer Committee, and Bryan Nykoliation, Fine Wine Festival Chair, are pleased to announce that the 15th Annual Toronto Symphony Orchestra Volunteer Committee Fine Wine Festival will be held October 18-20, 2005. With a reputation as one of the finest performing arts fundraising events in North America, the Fine Wine Festival raised over C$161,000 in 2004 and a total of almost $4 million since inception, making this Fine Wine Festival the major annual fundraiser for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and its many outreach programs. Regarded as one of the premier bookings on the Toronto social calendar, the Fine Wine Festival has been expanded this year to include new and exciting venues and events.

The Fine Wine Festival begins with the flagship Fine Wine Auction on Tuesday, October 18th starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club (city clubhouse). Ticket prices are $35.00 which will include the auction catalogue, bidding paddle, scrumptious edibles, and beverages. Christie’s auction house is proud to announce that highly regarded wine auction expert Duncan McEuen will be the special guest auctioneer. Rob Jull of Vinifera Wine Services will be appraising, consulting and lotting the wine. Urban Cellars will be responsible for storage and handling. An estimated 300 lots of rare and fine wine will be auctioned off to a highly appreciative audience.

On Wednesday, October 19th, The Festival Party will be held at the renowned Drake Hotel in Toronto. Partygoers will be treated to a dazzling array of food and drink bars spread throughout this unique city landmark. The Toronto Symphony Orchestra will be celebrated through live performances from TSO musicians, as well as audio visual displays and opportunities to win and purchase tickets to upcoming performances. Tickets are $85.00 per person.

The Fine Wine Festival concludes with its exclusive gala dinner and silent auction at Crush Restaurant & Wine Bar on Thursday, October 20th. The evening will feature a five course gourmet dinner featuring premium wines from the Niagara region, presented by Canada’s first and only Master Sommelier, John Szabo. A silent auction will also run through the evening. Tickets are $250.00 per person.

Now in its 83rd year, the Toronto Symphony Volunteer Committee (TSVC) is a leading orchestra volunteer organization committed to furthering the excellence of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Volunteer members organize and participate in its many fundraising, music education and awareness-building projects.

Tickets for all 3 events will be on sale as of July 1st through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.ca or call 416-870-8000.
