The Pillow Man

The Canadian Stage Company launches its 20th anniversary season with the Toronto premiere of Martin McDonagh’s thrilling drama The Pillowman, a Birdland Theatre Production produced in association with The Canadian Stage Company

- By the award-winning creator of The Beauty Queen of Leenane -

Toronto - The Canadian Stage Company opens its 20th anniversary season with BirdLand Theatre’s Toronto premiere of The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh at the Berkeley Street Theatre. This marks the inaugural partnership between The Canadian Stage Company and BirdLand Theatre.

In an unnamed totalitarian state, a writer is incarcerated and interrogated about a string of child murders seemingly inspired by his gruesome short stories. With macabre humour and sharp dialogue, this riveting play from the legendary creator of The Beauty Queen of Leenane and The Lieutenant of Inishmore explores the powerful influence of literature and begs the question – does art imitate life or does life imitate art?

"A play of extraordinary power and theatrical bravura."
- The Daily Mail (UK)

Directed by David Ferry, The Pillowman features Paul Fauteux as Michal, Richard McMillan as Tupolski and Shaun Smyth as Katurian with Paul Eves as Father, Zorana Kydd as Mother and Isabella Lobo as Girl.

Joining Mr. Ferry is a creative team which includes set & lighting designer Glenn Davidson, costume designer Gillian Gallow, sound designer John Gzowski, stage manager Andrea Schurman and assistant stage manager Mike Lewandowski.
