The Barber of Seville was back! |

This time this comedic classic by Rossini went all out to make it as funny as it can be. Opera York succeeded with a very entertaining version of this all time favourite opera which showcased the comedic talent of its performers.
Dann Mitton as Basilio and Douglas Tranquada in multiple roles were reliable and complimented the rest of the cast and ensemble well. Busy Sabatini Vacca pulled it all together with a small but fabulous orchestra, that was conducted by Geoffrey Bottler at the performance reviewed. The set by Frank Pasian was similar to the one presented before for this opera, but had more detail and a Moorish feeling. Costumes and all else were fine and everything appeared to run without a hitch, thus complements for the stage direction and other crew and chorus are in order. The audience felt thoroughly entertained and that is what opera is in the end about, entertainment!
Next we can expect a Christmas concert in December and Don Giovanni starring Andrew Tees in February. For more information call 905-763-7853.
