 May 2008 - Nr. 5

On the 8th of March over 300 people would not miss the President’s Ball at the Concordia Club, in spite of the ongoing heaviest snowfall of the season.

The charming Sarah Allmendinger led invited guests and members through the program that was masterfully put together by Rita Allmendinger.

Among the invited guests were MP’s Karen Redman and Andrew Telegdy, Ontario Minister of Culture and Education John Milloy, the Chair of Waterloo Region Ken Seiling, the mayors Karl Zehr and Brenda Halloran, and almost all presidents of the German Clubs and the GCC.

Newly reelected president Werner Schlueter warmly welcomed all who had not been scared away by ‘a few snowflakes’. He informed the German Language School that once again his club would host the school’s graduation ceremonies and he presented principal Gerhard Griebenow with a cheque to kick off this year’s fundraiser.

All celebrants enjoyed a fabulous meal of Cornish Hen and a dessert of ‘Rote Grütze’. The entertainment was provided by the uncharacteristically small but nevertheless powerful and harmonious mixed Concordia choir and by its ballroom dancers.

However, the evening’s main event was the swearing –in ceremony conducted by Liz Rowsell in which all executive members swore to diligently and productively fulfill their assigned duties.

After the program the ‘Saxons’ played lively dances till after midnight. As it turned out, the guests that were the last to leave discovered that the snowfall had stopped and the exit from the club had been plowed!
