Dear Editor:
I am a McMaster University PhD student working under the
supervision or Dr. Ruth Frager. I am currently conducting
research on ethnic German immigrants who arrived in Canada in
the interwar years and after World War II. As a social
historian, I am interested in the everyday lives of average
people. I am especially interested in the acculturation process (how
people adjust to a new culture), the formation of national and
ethnic identities, and how people reconcile experiences not
reflected in popular culture.
Ethnic Germans who immigrated to Canada during these periods (or
had relatives who did) are invited to participate in this
project by:
- taking part in an oral history interview of
approximately one to two hours
- contributing personal papers like letters, diaries,
photos, and records of immigration or employment.
The results of this study will be used in a PhD
dissertation entitled: “As long as I can live in peace: “Ethnic
German Immigrants in Canada, 1919 – 1960.”
If you would like more information on this study or would like
to participate please contact Rebecca Strung by phone at (289)

This study has been reviewed and approved by the McMaster
