FIESTA WEEK – Last Day!
Winding down the week-long, Caravan-like “Fiesta Week”
in Oshawa’s Loreley Club,
the last Saturday was amazing. We watched a sample of the many
performances that were scheduled all that week, the amount of
food and drink that was consumed by the daily visitors.
As rumor
had it, it was one of the best ‘Fiesta’ locations in Oshawa, and
I believed it when I saw even Ernst Stader, the president of the
club, emptying plates into the garbage and flatware into a bin
for the dishwasher. Everyone at the club was pitching in to make
sure the visitors were satisfied, well entertained and serviced.
Of course the club also won a trophy for these extra efforts
this year.
Tom Henninger was the Master of Ceremonies and introduced the
various dance groups to the visitors and guests.

Next came the Weiss Blau Bayern Junior – from the Hansa Haus in
Brampton – performances that put a definite slant on things
“German” – or what the world thinks is typically German with the
Lederhosen and the Dirndl dresses.

Next in line were the club’s own dancers again, starting with

followed by the Kinder Funkengarde.

The ‘piece de resistance’ – that everyone had been waiting for -
concluded the entertainment of this show; it was the fabled “Can
Can” by the Senior Funkengarde, resplendent in their wonderful
uniforms, which stole the show. It triggered memories of past
glories on the Carnival scene in many of the old-timers present.

The food service worked like an assembly line – of course Oshawa
was famous for another recent assembly line – so the wait in the
kitchen was quite short. It didn’t matter if you just wanted a
sausage or schnitzel on a bun, or a larger meal, the service was
fast and fabulous – and the schnitzels were great also!
As always
