Now in its fourth year, Luminato, the festival of arts and creativity, celebrates theatre, music, literature, food and dance on the city of Toronto’s stages, streets and public spaces. Last month it closed its successful and satisfying run at Toronto’s Queen’s Park to the delight of large crowds who listened to local And international stars such as Argentinian cabaret singer Alejandra Ribera, Creole jazz singer Carmen Photo by Bob SandboSouza and Toronto’s Katenen “Cheka” Dioubate.

Heading the bill for Global Blues were Havana’s Mezcla, Razia Said and “The Golden Voice of Africa,” Salif Keita.

Next day, which was World Refugee Day, we heard Global Divas and Global Blues with international and local stars pairing up for free music in the Park. A 1000 Tastes of Toronto provided Gourmet food by Toronto’s top chefs at $5 a pop. There was also a free opening night concert at Yonge-Dundas Square.

Festival highlights included the African Trilogy, John Malkovich Live on stage in the Infernal Comedy of A Serial Killer by Michael Sturminger which was received by critics with mixed results and the Free Waves Festival---short performances in theatre, dance and music of the Young Centre for Performing Arts, Vienna Academy Orchestra and TSO Goes Late Night: Beethoven Symphony 9.
