1980s Political Mosaic Wins European Film Prize |
||
TWIG - German filmmaker Andres Veiel has been named the winner of this year’s European Documentary Film Prize for his feature Black Box BRD. The European Film Academy will present the award December 1 at the new Tempodrom in Berlin. Black Box tells the story of two public figures whose positions in society are starkly opposed: Deutsche Bank board director Alfred Herrhausen, who was murdered by the far-left Red Army Faction (RAF) in 1989, and Wolfgang Grams, an RAF member who was killed during an exchange of fire with police in 1993. The film is based on interviews with members of the Herrhausen and Grams families. Upon its release in May 2001, critics praised the documentary as a gripping political portrait of the 1980s Federal Republic. The film was also screened this week in New York, as part of the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art’s "New Films – Germany 2001" series. |
