On a fine day in late September the new Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Klaus Rupprecht, appeared in Queens Park to introduce himself to Ontario’s Lt. Governor James Bartleman. Upon waiting for the photo opportunity we learned a few interesting bits about this office. His Honour the Lt. Governor is the 27th representative of the Queen at Queens Park and has native roots. This also makes him the first of Canada’s native people to hold such an office in Ontario. It was also interesting to admire the décor of the premises that serve their purpose for state visits and meetings and art exhibits alike. The red and gold antique looking furniture had their origins in a 1920ies Eaton’s catalogue, we were told. That Canadian institution is dead; long live its furniture! Dr. Klaus Rupprecht has been busy since his arrival about 4 weeks ago. In keeping with diplomatic protocol he has been introducing himself to all the powers that are. He is very happy to be here and is very impressed with our beautiful city of Toronto. His last appointment was in Thailand. SFR.
