Goethe Institut Publishes Dossier On Youth Culture |
||
TWIG - Generalizing about youth culture in Germany is like trying to sing any number of songs at the same time. But like people their age around the world, adolescents in Germany value achievement and power. They face the future with unbridled hope and a blank slate in a country that affords them many opportunities but where success is never just handed out. The Goethe Institute has put together an informational dossier dealing with several aspects of youth culture in Germany, from the political engagement of young Germans to the casting madness that has everyday kids becoming television stars. As a whole, the articles represent some of the trends that are driving youth culture today, as innocuous as the global reality television phenomenon, as serious as the threat of xenophobia. Others, such as a feature on the ties that bind among young people from the former East Germany and an article, are glimpses into the unique social fabric of youth culture in Germany as it becomes an evermore diverse country.
