The stunning Women’s Blues Revue celebrates its fifth anniversary at Massey Hall on Saturday, November 29, having come a long way from its humble beginnings in the small clubs of Toronto where it all began 22 years ago. The annual event has evolved into the city’s most popular blues showcase as it consistently delivers the most exciting and eclectic mix of women in blues, from new faces to established artists, representing a wide variety of backgrounds and styles. This year’s featured headliners are Alana Bridgewater, Lily Frost, Little Miss Higgins, ShoShona Kish, Elizabeth Shepherd and Suzie Vinnick.

The headliners are joined by the all-star Women’s Blues Revue Band featuring Suzie Vinnick (musical director/guitar), Colleen Allen (sax), Carrie Chesnutt (sax), Brandi Disterheft (bass), Michelle Josef (drums), Sarah McElcheran (trumpet), Lily Sazz (keyboards) and Margaret Stowe (guitar).

CBC Radio personality Shelagh Rogers is the host for the 22nd Annual Women’s Blues Revue. The concert will be recorded by CBC Radio for future broadcast.

The Women’s Blues Revue has launched the careers of many singers, including Amanda Marshall, Rita Chiarelli and Holly Cole, and has featured such headliners as Jackie Richardson, Shirley Eikhard, Sue Foley, Salome Bey and Carole Pope. In celebration of its 20th anniversary in 2006, the Toronto Blues Society released Women’s Blues Revue Live, a 15-track CD featuring CBC tapings of past performances.

The Toronto Blues Society
(TBS) was formed in 1985 with the goal of ensuring that "blues" music would always be guaranteed a place of prominence in Toronto. The organization was committed to creating a climate that would provide opportunities for live performances, radio airplay and national touring. The TBS has since established the monthly publication Maple Blues; the Maple Blues Awards; the TBS Talent Search; and a diverse array of activities that include workshops, a Blues in the Schools program, and of course, the TBS’s annual showcase of the season – The Women’s Blues Revue.
