Tulsa, Okla – The North Metro Chorus took silver at the 62nd
annual Sweet Adelines International Convention and Competition held
on Nov. 8, 2008, in Honolulu, Hawaii. One hundred seventy of the
188-member chorus performed onstage and wowed the judges and audience
with its creative and musical entertainment package.
June Dale has been directing the North Metro Chorus from Toronto,
Canada, since its official charter was granted back in 1967 and
this year marks her fourteenth year leading the North Metro Chorus
on the International Stage. Although they are a three-time International
Champion chorus they knew they were up against amazing talent in
this year’s competition. They are thrilled with their second place
achievement.
The chorus has a diverse membership of women ranging in age from
14- to 87-years old. Membership consists of four mother and daughter
combinations, including one member who shares her hobby of singing
with three daughters who are also members of the North Metro Chorus.
Three quartets stem from the chorus and several members serve on
the International Faculty and on its Regional Management Team.
The North Metro Chorus performs for a variety of events throughout
its community each year. This year they coordinated and performed
for an annual auction and several shows, but also performed for
several community events in support of cancer research and homeless
women. Members of the North Metro Chorus are truly passionate about
singing and love connecting with their audience when they perform.
Chorus member, Carol Leppan explained, "Through our music and choreography
we attempt to build a brief relationship with every member of the
audience and give each of them the opportunity to live the message
of the song and capture the passion of the story."
